View Full Version : Suggestions for the Site

This site is still in development, and I haven't really tried to advertise or do anything big yet. I'm just trying to keep the forum and site as simple as possible for now. I'm working on Wiki for the new future...maybe try to integrate it with the forum. I'll probably add mods, and more forums as time goes on. Right now, just the basics. Here are the things I'm thinking about.

Photo Gallery Of Screenshots From Players (On Site)
--- Maybe Player Gallery If Anyone Is Interested (On Forum)
Wiki
--- Gonna try to do it differently than other sites.
--- Gonna try to give it a unique design
More Forums
--- Future Admins
-------- Forum Admins
-------- Web Site Admins
--- Future Mods
-------- Global
-------- Forum
--- More Features
--- More Forum Skins
--- Maybe convert to Vbulletin Since I Can't Find Some Of The Mods For PHPBB

It really depends on this site and the growth though. I hope this site is a success. This game will probably be really popular and there's gonna be a lot of competition. So what do you guys think would make a growing fans ite better?

those are all great suggestions Tor...from the looks of things, this site is definitely rocking & rolling. i love the colors and style of this forum, sure, having more forum skins would be nice, but personally i like things simple, so it wouldn't make a difference to me :)

wiki sites don't interest me that much, unless u have something really different from the other wiki sites, people will probably visit that once and forget it. it's not as interesting as a well organized forum or a nice fan site.

i think what will attract fans most now are gossips and rumors, hehe, and real news if you can get any. also cool tools would be nice, i've seen a stat builder somewhere. once they release the english version, accurate beginner guides would also be awesome. the chinese forum (very ugly btw) has these categories: important announcements, most popular threads, beginner's realm, class discussion, territorial war, game content, art gallery, guild discussion, your pw experience.

that's all i can think of for now :D

p.s. i heard from an anonymous source that pw u.s. version will be released march/april 2008.

This site is good and has more sections than the official forums. However maybe you can add those multimedia forum section like on FW. Those were a hit and same with the polls and debates forum. I have this crazy idea that maybe can help this site like making private forum guilds with forum users and/or making a journal/school/work section like where you express what happened in your day or what some person did to you.....

Thats all I got for ideas. Maybe we can also make a different game section where people post guides on any other game.

Im done with my ideas now. This site is actually growing we got 8 new members in 1 week. Ill see if I can get on any other fan sites and advertise as much as I can. Since MapleStory is boring as hell now ill start there. Maybe 50 people will switch over in the next month.

Remember: VOTE NO ON PROP 82

Hmm. I think the name for the screenshot: Art Gallery should be changed to something else, and use Art Gallery for a forum/subofum in the multimedia secition. Art Gallery sounds more like personal works etc.

Maybe Character Showcase, Photo Directory, The Catwalk or something xD They were just random off the top of my head x:

As for the change to VBulletin, it depends if you're missing really major mods, because I reckon this kind of PHPBB layout is quite nice.

A wiki sounds great. You could also implement a 'personal guide' section as well into the wiki maybe? Where someone can have their own page of their own guide? Similar to The Great Library forum atm, but with the Wiki. Then we could take away The Great Library section entirely.

I'm not sure how it'd look, but when I look at the forums, the class discussion section with the pictures next to the titles really dominates the eye when looking at it. I reckon we could maybe try put a small size picture in each of the titles too, like for the Tavern discussion forum, get a picture of inside a house ingame and cut it out of a screenie or something. I reckon this would make the index page more nice too. And for starters at the forum, the title of the sections could be confusing at first so pictures could help if we can get good enoguh pics to match the titles.

But I like the simplicity though and if it ruins it, maybe it won't be such a good idea. Currently I get this very professional and upper-like feel to the forums. It's a big contrast to Flyffworld and it's nice in it's own aspect. It suits the game, so I wouldn't advise adding too much 'cute' stuff into it maybe?

Hmm... that's all I can think of at the moment, but it's all just constructive feedback so if I've wrongly said anything, please don't take it offensively Tor =P If I think of anything more, I'll tell you.

Hi there, first of all, you should just buy another license to use the vbulletin forums and convert this over, not hard to do, just takes a little effort and time. Inplimenting a wiki and photogallery is a great idea, as I'm sure this would be a widely used fansite anyhow. Some reply suggestions to you:

Gallery = yes

Forums = add some hidden moderator/admin forums, and/or more as the game comes out, leave that open to suggestion which you'll want to use.

Skins = Yes, however keep that to three skins in my opinion. The current, a second user enabled switch and a third one which users can use and for server issues like you've got on FW.

More features = Setup a sub-install and test out the diary system perhaps, as it'll be just as easier to add it before the site has more traffic and the game release so players can keep that up to date (if converting to vbulletin, test the new system, its perfectly fine and an easy install) and make sure such features as youtube and other video streaming applicational code has been implimented and coded into the forums.

I've several years of experience with phpBB/vBulletin/Nuke/Zentri CMS programs etc if you need a hand with anything. However the skin project should be a priority if the users become more frequent and more coming to the site, just so you've a backup for traffic issues etc.

Also a side note: In your actual forum index, code the header logo image to redirect to the home directory of the website. Most people find that easier than clicking home. -_-

I like this skin. It's simple and clean. If you conver to VB, keep this skin. I know that VB has a lot more features and stuff.

Wiki would be awesome, especially integrated into the forum. Also most wiki's have bad designs, if you could somehow give it a nice look...that would be awesome.

I think it already does that

The 1PefectWorld logo in the top left, does not link to the homepage/forum index, thats what I am referring too as his header image goes straight across and isn't sliced into sections.

Nice input guys. Art gallery should be renamed...you're right. XD what name though? Anyone got a suggestions?

About the logo to home as a link, I'll add that in later. ^^ Shouldn't be that hard. And Memnone thx, I'll definately take you up for that if I need any technical help. If i do switch to vb, I want to stay with this skin. The simplicity is too nice.

If anyone got anything else to suggest that be awesome.

No problem, yeah the theme is easy to code that, however, reslice your head image and then code the header into two sections, obviously coding the search function into the right side header.

Switching to vB would probably be your best bet in the long run, more features and its more stable. The skin is perfectly fine, but the others as I suggestion or at least a "fail safe" template would be perfect for the traffic.

You should also add a "buying/selling" catagory/sub-catagory which would help out people, and a guides section like FW has by these I mean in the tavern section is where your guides go? Make 2 seperate catagorys in that for guides too.

Solstice
09-18-2007, 02:58 PM
tavern section is lke general discussion in flyffworld. The great library is where the guides go and so far only 1 and thats english patching the chinese version written by Tor. Yes a marketplace would be good. How bout a debate section like on flyffworld? That got people to put on their serious face and debate thoughts about the world or about themselves. I like Pie.

I don't think we have a big enough user base to start opening specific off topic sections like FW does. Remember, FW never had those sub fourms when it first started out. I thin we should wait a while before adding in Movies/TV, debates etc.

Solstice
09-18-2007, 11:57 PM
well I wasn't around flyfworld when it was made so I don't know. I guess you are right though because we want to have people view each of those topics/subtopics all the time and for that we need at least over 1000 active members.

Sno
09-19-2007, 07:12 AM
Yeah, those kind of sections should be implemented later. It takes awhile to get a big group of active members. FW has 3k or so active members and the site's been up for 2 years. So getting the first one thousand can take awhile. But eh, it's hard to say though. Flyff is a much smaller game compared to the assumed population of Perfect World gamers. English malay hasn't even started yet and I think that's when we'll start getting most of our active members in.

V9 really did it for flyff. It lost it's mojo, and now a lot of players are seeking new games. Even though it has a lot of good new features, unless they do something massive (3rd job change) all the high players that quit won't be flocking back.

Back on topic though...thx for all the suggestions again. Looking forward to some more if anyone has some.

how about we make an arcade like on FW. A lot of users played at them. What if we make an advertisement on AIM or MySpace. I can tell all my friends to play this game but they are scared to download games. I guess I can post it on my sites and have some new members join by that. But the thing is that the game isn't evemn out yet so you can't expect many people to know about it let alone join a forum. I will make a few youtube slideshows with information about this site. Anyone know how to copy the trailer =P.

These are only minor suggestions. It would be nice to have customizable name titles under our avatars. It should still keep the simple look. From seeing the "site admin" title under your name Tor, the customizable names shouldn't be too far from that.

Or possibly have a rank system like "junior member" or "member" and as you reach a certain post count you get to customize your name title. It good be a nice incentive to keep members actively posting.

Could we also get a bit of an increase in avatar size? Not too much bigger but I can get some sizes to you later on. I'll probably just edit this post unless someone posts after me then I'll just make a new post.

Also possibly incorporating unique and slightly larger emoticon faces would be nice. I know they can be annoying for some people b/c they can get overused but I really like them. My fave emoticon on here is the "geek" face. I will be on the lookout for some unique emoticon faces if that is possible on here.

This suggestion might be useful now or work out better later. I know that you have a "District Office" for members to post any problems they have with the site/forum or anything wrong about the site/forum. How about a "technical problems" forum that is game related. Any difficulties that members have with the game could be discussed there.

I just looked again at the forum. Maybe you already have this type of section I'm suggesting: Heaven and Hell Public School. Is that for game-related tech problems? I know it is for general game questions like about weapons. What I'm getting at is. There's for example a 'Flyff-related Questions' and then a 'Flyff Tech Problems'. I'm trying to see if I'm suggesting something that is already here. But it's not quite clear.

Regardless, this site/forum looks really nice and clean. Of course, I already use a bare-bones forum skin on the other forum. This is it for now. :geek:

I would love the public page each member is given on Flyff World.
Also, I find SoraMio's suggestions really nice, and agree with them.

The old ones were so much better and much more organized!!
Plus they said what the last activity was which I use alot..

I have sent you some suggestions via PM on the official PW-EN forums. Feel free to check it out.

If your looking for a webmaster, let me know.

I also suggest IPB for fansites, its more dynamic and allows more for user profiles, so people can show off their chars more etc etc. vBulletin is more professional type and is rarely picked for gaming sites unless they are extremely big.

Umm.. I have a nice shoutbox script lying around. Its a paid one, and I have yet to use it. Let me know if you need it :P

Its browser based and updates by itself so no need for refresh. It has a professional and sleek look too. :)

EDIT: Just checked it all and its all working fine on my local host. :) Its using yShout. A Paid Shoutbox script. You can view a demo of it here: http://geekchat.net/yshout5/example/

You can run it off its own page, or simply embed it into a certain webpage. Let me know if you are interested in truly using this script, and I will send you it as a gift for having such a great community here. :)

I'm not sure if this was suggested already, but I was thinking that it would be really convenient if there was a small section on the front page of this website with the information and schedule day and time of PW's maintenance.

So say on the night before or that morning (depending on the time they have it scheduled) you can create that small section and provide the day/time/date and whether this be a maintenance, update or patch etc..If it is maintenance that is scheduled for that week, you can just write the day/time/date with a rough estimate of it's length of time, and if possilbe include any additional information that the devs may have written concerning that maintenance.

The same goes for an update and patch, provide the day/time/date, rough estimate of it's length of time and any additional information and changes being made. Now I know updates and patches aren't done often, so there will most likely be quite a few things listed. In that case, you could just write the timeframe info, and then say something like: for further information please click this link etc..That way you won't have to use much room on the main page, yet still being able cover everything that is included for that maintenance/update/patch etc..

This to me is the main English PW site, and honestly I actually thought it was the game's forum for a couple days until I took notice of the 'Fansite' part hehe. So I think if any upcoming information about PW was posted something like the above, it would be great not only for the newbies, but also for everyone in general so we don't have to go through multiple sites and translators trying to figure out exactly what/where/when/how is going on with our maintenance/updates/patches.

My apologies for the walloftext, it's just a suggestion and if you would like to implement something like this and need any help with it or anything else on the site, please don't hesitate to ask! This is a great site and I'm sure I can speak for many when I say thankyou for taking the time to keep it running and updated for us!
