IRC Channel now Registered

I got Delta Anime to register us an IRC Channel called #1PW
<.< Specifically, they registered me, but I didn't think Tor would mind that part.

This link does not work if you do not have an IRC client which supports the "irc" prefix:
irc://irc.deltaanime.net/1PW (irc://irc.deltaanime.net/onePW)

For non-supported clients, use the server "irc.deltaanime.net" and the channel "#1PW"

If you use Firefox, I recommend using Chatzilla. If you use Trillian already or want support for other Instant Messaging Programs, use that. Most people will find it best and safest to use Mirc. If you trust any other IRC Client, feel free to use that instead.

Users are expected to register to protect their nicks, as well as to use additional functions.

To Register a nick, use:
/ns Register {Password} {Email}
Where Password is any complex password and Email is a valid email (for password recovery).

To log in, use:
/ns Identify {Password}
Must be done while your nick is selected, using /nick

WereGirl has offered helpful features to the channel, such as an index of information. All help commands are done using the format:
? {Command}
Where Command is any keyword you wish to ask about. Many commands may not yet be defined. To see a list of commands available, use the command:
!top
You can add a number after the word 'top' to increase the list size. For other functions (although some may be disabled for you), use !help

% Half Op : Controls some functions of the room. Given to selected registered members of both the irc server and this forum.
+ Voice : Required to talk during certain modes. Given to all registered members of this forum.
Blank : Automatically given to any unidentified user in the channel. If you are not getting voice and believe you should, you need to identify yourself with either myself or any op/hop.

It means you needed that + in front of your name, voice was set as a requirement to talk.

To get that, use /msg and request it of either myself or any op/halfop on at the time. Be sure to identify yourself.

Thanks, it appears Soul and I are the only ones who have it. Tor gave himself an Administrator one though.

Speaking of ranking though, I need to start planning who to give op/halfop for IRC. Since I can't run it while away from home/comp, I need to find people to voice and moderate the channel, who are trustworthy and know what they are doing.

Please note the order, as it is easier to train someone to use it, but harder to make someone trustworthy.

<.< People might want to reserve their names on IRC by registering with the server. I'm not going to Op someone who hasn't. Already got Tor to register. Ask on IRC if you need help registering.

well i fit in on the trustworthy part (oh wait, u cant know, just trust me on it ^^) but i dont have much experience when it comes to IRC, hardly none at all.... but im a fast learner.
i think there are ppl around here that have more experince though, hopefully theyre trusthworthy too.

A requirement would also be that you are active in IRC a lot, and can avoid logging off. Without a bot, you would need someone of equal or higher rank to halfop/op you, but if you stay on you will already be set.

The bot must be uploaded to a compatable server, and then configured to go to that channel. The only real problem is the server that the bot goes on, or any acceptable equivalence.

This'll let you get a chanserv bot for auto opping / halfopping. Technically you could do it without the bot, but a named one rather than chanserv is always more fun :P More commands later when I catch you on irc.

Most people it seems add their own. I do still hold value in the use of "!learn" commands. >.> If it does auto ops, moderation (kick spammers automatically and respond to !kick commands), and replys to learned commands, that's all I need. >.>

It'll do everything except learned commands :S. For that you'll need your own bot. >_> What sort of commands were you thinking of giving it? If it's channel related, then chances are the dairc bot can already do it, but if it's information / rules / links, then yeah you'll need your own bot :S

Until then though, it might be best to follow the policy of 'do what you can'. I'll discuss with you what could be done without an external bot, and so someday when we do get a bot, that load can be relieved from it. Bot's downtime always has the worst effect on channel-related functions anyways, so it sounds like a bright idea.

Due to features included in the new bot, as well as how much of a hassle it is to add voice to everyone (which will only get worse when things get busy), I'm changing the system around again.

~: Still just me, the room owner.
&: WereGirl, our resident supervisor, be nice to her. She has Administrative rights. Don't worry if she doesn't talk sometimes, she does talk on rare occasions.
@: Various people may have Op Rights. This lets them do many things such as change the room's topic. They will be quite important.
%: Several people will have HalfOp Rights. They can kick you if you do something inappropriate.
+: Many people may have Voice Rights. These people will be immune to various moderation tools and are included in conferences. Reasonably important, but without any real power.

Many members will thus have no icon beside their name. It is still recommended that you register a name.

People also need to start to behave better on IRC. I've been hearing complaints, and we don't want things to look bad.

You have no right whatsoever to treat weregirl the way you do. She is not a bot she is real you know. You only got kicked twice for using all caps and saying noob. If thats who you really are it would be better if you are not on IRC. Weregirl is krescens choice to help run the channel and if you do not like her then why do you come in? I find the rules funny and I have been kicked 22 times. The autoban was instated so we do not do whatever we want flaming ever person we hate or posting any porn/hentai (lol hentai makes me lol). Autoban was instated to keep a good community which was going great till you came mouthing off and calling her an idiot. Encore is having fun posting random nonsense which is pretty funny but you are just bringing your agressive attitude. Either shape up or don't bother coming back to IRC. If you try to take it over with your "program" then you will be probably banned by krescen there and be given an infraction or ban here to. Its not our problem that you do not like the autoban its yours so deal with it yourself. We have all found a way to get across autoban and we enjoy IRC. We do not want you to ruin it so make yourself useful and stop it.

Wraith the IRC is a hosted chat room and weregirl works for the people hosting it so if you actually kick her you can be legally seud for releiving her of her job without authority. We do not talk about world domination in there so what is the point of encore telling you the extra details? You can still join the channel just be a little gentle once in a while because we don't want a spoiled brat thinking he can do whatever he wants on our channel. If you do not like the way our channel is then start your own. Leaving your computer on at night is not an idiotic thing to do. Keeping a computer running at night uses about the same amount of electricity as an alarm clock. I work for deltaanime's Adminserv operations. Currently I am the Senior Manager of the AS and Support teams.

weregirl IS a bot. It is apart of our services code. It is not a real person, ops and above in a channel can make it talk do little kicks, actions thats about it. They can also make it respond to triggers like ? hi and so fourth.

Kicking a services bot would be utterly impossible. Only the owner of a channel can add or remove a services bot. If someone tried to kick it, it just wouldn't go anywhere because it's protected and cannot be kicked. And no, even if it WAS possible we would not be suing anyone.

There is your real information on weregirl. If you wish for it to learn how to respond to things such as ? hi do /bs set #channelname zbot on then type !help for a list of commands.

i asked someone at future shop and many other comp places and so far they said leaving a comp on every time your away can kill the fan and over heat your comp so do you think its smart to do that my old comps fan broke after being on for nearly 72 hours straight (i was afk on and off) so i needed to get a new one and i guess i was overacting about the bot but that doesnt mean i wont try to kick it

well 72 hours straight no duh it will overheat. However the new Dell comps are now designed to withstand overheating better and what year was your comp? 1998? zzzzzzthese days you can leave a comp on for an entire week and nothing will happen. It also helps if you have the screen off.
